Four Reasons To Take That Temp Job

by Courtney Kennedy

Applying for work through a staffing agency is a great way to get your resume out to many employers in your area, which means you are sure to find work much faster along with a job that perfectly fits your skills and experiences. Many people are hesitant about this, however, because they are worried about only getting a temp job, which is usually the case when you are hired through a staffing agency. Here are four reasons you should be accepting it:

  1. Potential Permanent Employment: Usually, the temp positions you are offered only last for a certain number of days with potential permanent employment afterwards. The reason for this is that employers want to be sure that you are actually a good fit for the company. Once the temp time period passes, most employers are willing to hire you to stay, so long as your performance has been on par.
  2. Gain Experiences: If nothing else, you are sure to gain experiences that will help you apply for jobs later on. This means that the temp job will definitely be well worth your time and possibly open you up to more employment opportunities in the future including permanent positions.
  3. Find Your Best Suited Role: Another benefit of a temp position is that you are going to have more opportunity to find a role that is better suited to you. You won't be stuck in a position that you only discover to not work for you. With more experiences with temp positions, you are more likely to find a position that you feel comfortable advancing in.
  4. Test Drive Employers: All employers operate in a different way, so another benefit of accepting a temp position is that you get to test drive the employer. This way you know whether or not you can see yourself continuing to work with this employer in the future. If you run into them for a temp position in the future, as well, you will know whether or not it's a job you want to accept.

While accepting a temp position isn't always easy, if you are able to prove yourself in the position, chances are you will be hired on permanently in the future. If not, then you can continue working with the staffing agency better knowing what positions you are interested in and having more positions available to you because of your experiences with other temp positions.
